Joćo Walter Dürr (PhD) – Interbull Centre Director

Joćo is an animal breeder and had his PhD from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. His research has centered around genetics of longevity in dairy cattle, somatic cells and mastitis resistance, and milk quality. He held for 11 years a professorship at the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine of Universidade de Passo Fundo in southern Brazil, and has had many responsible duties within and outside his university, being in charge of an extensive milk analysis service to Brazilian farmers. Joćo can be contacted by phone (+46-18-672098), fax (+46-18-672648) or e-mail (Joao.Durr_at_hgen.slu.se).

Eva Hjerpe (MSc) – Research Geneticist

Eva completed her MSc (Agriculture) with specialisation in animal transportation at the Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences (SLU) in autumn 2003. Eva has a technical and an economical background. Work experiences include positions as a project manager at Volvo Truck Corporation in Gothenburg (Sweden) and as an economist and computer administrator from other previous employments. Her main activities are to provide support to functions related to the service of international genetic evaluations. In addition, she will also be involved in research and information activities. Jette H. Jakobsen (PhD) – Research Geneticist

Jette completed her PhD thesis of random regression test day models for milk production and disease liability in dairy cattle at The Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Foulum and The Royal Veterinarian and Agricultural University of Copenhagen in October 2000. During her study, she spent two semesters at University of Nebraska and two study trips to University of Wisconsin. After her graduation, Jette was employed at the Danish Agricultural Advisory Centre, where she was involved in the development of joint Nordic genetic evaluations for milk production traits in dairy cattle using a random regression test day model. From January 2003, she is employed at the Interbull Centre. Jette’s main responsibilities will be developing international genetic evaluations for longevity and calving traits for dairy bulls. Jette can be contacted at the address given above and by phone (+46-18-671955), fax (+46-18-672648) or e-mail Jette.Jakobsen_at_hgen.slu.se.

Hossein Jorjani (PhD) - Research Geneticist

Hossein has had his education at a number of colleges and universities around the world: Tehran, Glasgow, Ayr, Edinburgh, and Uppsala. He has been employed at the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences since 1989, first in the section for Quantitative Genetics, then in the section for General Animal Breeding, and has been working at the Interbull Centre since November 1998. Hossein’s responsibilities at the Interbull Centre include research aimed at improvement of national data quality and improvement of the currently used methodology (MACE), such as finding more efficient ways to estimate genetic correlations among countries. Hossein can be contacted at the address shown above and by phone (+46-18-671964), fax (+46-18-672648) or e-mail Hossein.Jorjani_at_hgen.slu.se.

Flavio Forabosco (PhD) - Research Geneticist

Flavio completed his PhD thesis on breeding for longevity in beef cattle at the Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Before and during his studies he worked and studied in Brasil for one year, the USA for four months and various countries within Europe. From 1999 to 2005 he was employed by the National Association of Italian Cattle Breeders to work in the breeding evaluation office. His main responsibility was genetic evaluation of five Italian beef breeds. During his time in this post he combined his work activities with his PhD studies which he completed in October 2005. Since November 2005, he has been employed at the Interbull Centre. Valentina Palucci (MSc) - Research Geneticist

Valentina completed her MSc (animal breeding and genetics) with a thesis on non-additive genetic effects for fertility traits in Canadian Holstein at the Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock at the University of Guelph in Canada (CGIL), in November 2005. From January 2006 to February 2007 she worked for CGIL and Beef Improvement Ontario on a project about genetic improvement of maternal influenced traits in sheep, with particular attention to lamb survivability. Since March 2007 she is employed at the Interbull Centre for a period of three years. Valentina’s main responsibilities would be to contribute to development of a system for beef international genetic evaluation and provide support to delivery of Interbull services.
